Mufulira Wanderers Football Club have strengthened their defensive department with the signing of central defender Hillary Mwiinga on a two-and-a-half-year permanent contract from Lumwana Radiants FC.
The 26-year-old arrives at Shinde Stadium after spending last season on loan at Mutondo Stars FC, where he enjoyed an impressive campaign and established himself as one of the league’s most reliable defenders.
Mwiinga becomes the latest addition to Abena Milambo’s squad as preparations for the new season continue.
Impressive Numbers at Mutondo Stars
During his loan spell at Mutondo Stars, Mwiinga made 24 appearances and played a key role in helping the team register 11 clean sheets.
The defender also showed his threat at the other end of the pitch, contributing two goals and three assists throughout the campaign.
His performances were marked by strong aerial ability, composure in possession and an excellent reading of the game, qualities that attracted Wanderers to his signature.
Ready for the Challenge
Speaking after completing the move, Mwiinga expressed his excitement at joining one of Zambia’s most historic football clubs.
“I am honoured to join Mufulira Wanderers Football Club, a club with great history and passionate supporters.”
“I am ready to work hard, learn from the coaches and senior players, and give my best to help the team achieve its targets this season.”
The defender will be hoping to make an immediate impact as Wanderers look to build on last season’s progress.
Club Delighted With Signing
Mufulira Wanderers CEO Evans Chiyanta welcomed the arrival of the experienced centre-back and believes he will strengthen the team’s defensive options.
“Hillary is a strong, modern centre-back with good experience in the league.”
“We believe he will adapt quickly to our philosophy and strengthen our defensive options as we build a competitive team.”
The club views the signing as another important step in strengthening the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign.
Conclusion
With his experience, defensive qualities and proven performances at league level, Hillary Mwiinga arrives at Mufulira Wanderers as a player expected to make an immediate contribution.
Abena Milambo supporters will be hoping the defender can help solidify the backline as the club aims for a successful season.
