Experienced winger Augustine Mulenga is set to leave NAPSA Stars following the expiration of his contract in July, bringing an end to his second spell with the Lusaka-based club.
Sources indicate that Mulenga has already informed teammates of his impending departure, with the winger reportedly posting a farewell message in the NAPSA Stars WhatsApp group to thank players and staff for their support.
His exit is expected to spark significant interest across the MTN Super League, with several clubs already making enquiries ahead of the 2026 Transitional Season.
Short But Important Return
Mulenga rejoined the Pensioners in August last year after leaving South African Premiership side AmaZulu.
Although his return lasted less than a year, the experienced winger played a crucial role in helping NAPSA Stars avoid relegation.
His goals and attacking contributions proved vital during a difficult campaign as the Pensioners battled to secure their top-flight status.
One of Zambia’s Most Experienced Forwards
The 35-year-old remains one of Zambia’s most accomplished and experienced attacking players.
Mulenga enjoyed two spells with AmaZulu and was instrumental during the club’s historic 2020/21 season under Benni McCarthy when Usuthu finished runners-up in the South African Premiership.
During his time at the club, he scored eight goals and provided 13 assists in 48 appearances.
From Zanaco Star to Regional Success
Mulenga first rose to prominence at Zanaco FC, where he was a key figure in the club’s successful period between 2016 and 2017.
He helped the Bankers win the Super League title in 2016 before playing a major role in their runners-up finish the following season.
His performances earned him a move to South African giants Orlando Pirates in January 2018, further enhancing his reputation as one of Zambia’s finest attacking talents.
What’s Next?
With his contract nearing its conclusion, Mulenga is expected to be one of the most attractive free agents available on the local market.
Despite being in the latter stages of his career, his experience, leadership and ability to influence matches continue to make him a valuable asset.
Several MTN Super League clubs are already believed to be monitoring his situation closely.
Conclusion
Augustine Mulenga’s departure marks the end of another chapter in a career that has seen him succeed in Zambia and South Africa.
As he prepares for his next move, the experienced winger remains a player capable of making a significant impact, and his future destination is likely to be one of the major transfer stories of the off-season.
