Match week 7 of the 2025/26 MTN Super League delivered another thrilling round of football across Zambia, with big wins, painful stalemates, and late twists shaping the already-updated standings. While Zanaco remain top, the chasing pack continues to shuffle, and the relegation battle is heating up faster than expected. From Zesco’s demolition job to Nkana’s ongoing misery, here’s how each result affected the teams involved.
Nkwazi FC 1-1 Green Eagles
Nkwazi took an early lead through Wezzy Kumwenda in the 28th minute, raising hopes of finally securing their first win of the season. However, the familiar storyline returned as Collins Sikombe equalised in the 55th minute, leaving Nkwazi frustrated once again. The team showed structure and intent but lacked the killer edge needed to close matches — a recurring problem that has left them languishing in 15th place.
For Green Eagles, the draw is more of a disappointment than relief. Now 9th with 9 points, they remain lodged in mid-table obscurity, unable to convert dominance into consistent wins. Their attack continues to fire in patches, but defensive lapses cost them again. This was a missed opportunity to break into the top six.
Kabwe Warriors 1-0 Konkola Blades
Quadri Kola’s 21st-minute goal was enough for Kabwe Warriors to secure yet another vital victory and continue their impressive early-season form. Now sitting comfortably in 3rd, they look like genuine title outsiders, boasting one of the most organised backlines in the league. Their midfield control remains a key strength, and grinding out narrow wins like these is what champions are made of.
Konkola Blades, meanwhile, will be disappointed to leave empty-handed despite moments of resilience. Now 10th with 9 points, they remain safe but stagnant. Their inability to generate clear chances against top opposition suggests they may struggle to climb higher unless their attacking output improves significantly.
FC MUZA 0-0 Power Dynamos
It was a tense stalemate between FC MUZA and Power Dynamos, as both sides cancelled each other out in a cagey affair. MUZA, now 6th with 11 points, continue to show defensive discipline but lack creativity in the final third. They’ve become difficult to beat — but draws like these won’t help them climb into championship contention.
Power Dynamos, on the other hand, continue to underwhelm. Still 11th with 8 points, the defending champions lack the spark and hunger that defined their past seasons. While the clean sheet is positive, urgency is creeping in — with fans demanding more than stable, low-risk football.
Nkana FC 0-0 Mutondo Stars
For Nkana, the crisis deepens. Another goalless draw extends their winless run to seven games, leaving them stuck in 17th place with just 4 points. Their defensive shape has improved slightly, but the lack of creativity and confidence in attack is alarming. The legendary club now desperately needs a spark — perhaps even drastic tactical change — to avoid sinking further.
Mutondo Stars, now 12th with 8 points, will be satisfied with a point away from home, but they too lack a winning edge. Their performances have been consistent, but not explosive. Survival remains likely, but progression will depend on converting draws into wins.
Kansanshi Dynamos 1-1 Red Arrows
Kansanshi nearly celebrated their first win of the season when Rodgers Lukonde scored in the 40th minute, but Red Arrows’ Albert Kangwanda struck back in the 56th minute. For Kansanshi, currently 16th and still winless, this result reflects improvement but also lingering fragility. They remain trapped in survival mode.
Red Arrows, now 4th with 11 points, continue to show resilience, but this result feels like two points dropped. A title contender must dominate lower-ranked teams — and Arrows were far from convincing. They remain in the hunt, but performances must improve if they are to pressure leaders Zanaco.
Zesco United 5-0 Mines United
The biggest statement of the weekend came from Zesco United, who ruthlessly dismantled bottom-placed Mines United. Amine Hiver starred with a first-half brace (24’ and 30’), while an own goal from Makenge Makabaniso, plus strikes from Chanda Mukuka and Freddy Michael (penalty), sealed a dominant scoreline. Now 8th with 10 points, Zesco have reignited their campaign — and with momentum building, they’re suddenly back in the top-four conversation.
For Mines United, this was another brutal reminder of the gap between them and top-flight competitiveness. Still 18th with just one point, their defensive structure is collapsing game after game. Without urgent recruitment or tactical overhaul, relegation already looks inevitable.
Nchanga Rangers 1-1 Napsa Stars
Christopher Itaka’s 29th-minute goal had Nchanga Rangers dreaming of a climb to top spot, but Abeli Safali’s dramatic 90+4’ equaliser stunned the Copperbelt crowd. Rangers stay 2nd with 13 points, but this draw will feel like a defeat. Their attack remains sharp, but game management in the dying moments is becoming a concern.
Napsa Stars, now 13th with 7 points, will welcome the point. Their season has been rocky, but late goals like this could inject belief into a team still searching for consistency. A foundation exists — but structure must improve.
FC Leopards 0-1 Mighty Mufulira Wanderers
A Freddie Mushindi own goal in the 53rd minute gifted Mufulira Wanderers all three points in a tight encounter. Now 7th with 11 points, Mighty continue to quietly build momentum and are proving they can grind out results even when not at their best. Their composure under pressure is becoming a strength.
For FC Leopards — now 14th and still winless — this is yet another painful defeat. The lack of attacking identity is glaring, and defensive mishaps continue to define their season. Urgent change is needed before they’re dragged deeper into relegation trouble.
