The Zambia Women’s National Team, the Copper Queens, will in a week’s time learn their group stage opponents for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026, as anticipation builds ahead of the official draw.
The draw for the expanded 16-team TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2026 will be conducted on January 15, marking a significant milestone in Africa’s premier women’s football competition.
Zambia qualified for the continental showpiece in convincing fashion, overcoming COSAFA rivals Namibia with a dominant 7-2 aggregate victory. The Copper Queens secured a crucial 4-2 away win in the first leg played in South Africa before sealing qualification with an emphatic 3-0 triumph at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium.
Hosts Morocco will headline Group A, while African powerhouses Nigeria, Ghana, and reigning champions South Africa are expected to be among the top seeds, setting the stage for a highly competitive tournament.
Other nations that have secured qualification include Algeria, Burkina Faso, Malawi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Kenya, Mali, Senegal, and Tanzania, underlining the depth and growth of women’s football on the continent.
The finals will once again be staged in Morocco from March 17 to April 3 and will also double as qualifiers for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. Zambia will be aiming to book a second consecutive World Cup appearance after making history at the 2023 edition hosted jointly by Australia and New Zealand.
