Trident FC Appoints George Chilufya as new Head Coach

Trident FC Announces Technical Bench Changes, Targets Promotion to MTN Super League

Trident Football Club has announced immediate changes to its technical bench following a mutual separation with head coach Ernest Koffi. The Ghanaian tactician departs after guiding the club through 24 matches in the 2024/25 season, securing 10 victories, six draws, and eight defeats. As the Conquerors look to refocus on their promotion ambitions, they have turned to former Mutondo Stars manager George Chilufya to steer the ship until the end of the campaign.

Koffi’s Departure After 24 Games

Ernest Koffi’s departure comes at a pivotal point in Trident’s season. Having overseen a total of 24 matches, his record stands at:

  • 10 wins
  • 6 draws
  • 8 losses

While the club has shown flashes of potential, both parties agreed that a change was necessary to galvanize the team’s push for promotion. Koffi’s contribution in stabilizing the squad during a crucial period is acknowledged, but Trident’s management felt the need for fresh leadership to realize their Super League aspirations.

Chilufya Takes the Helm

Stepping in as interim head coach is George Chilufya, a CAF A license holder known for his stints at Nkana FC and Mutondo Stars FC. Chilufya initially joined Mutondo Stars as a technical director before taking over as head coach when Zeddy Saileti departed for Kansanshi Dynamos.

His appointment reflects Trident’s confidence in his experience and track record:

  • CAF A Coaching License: Ensures he meets high-level coaching standards.
  • Experience at Super League Clubs: His background at Nkana FC and Mutondo Stars FC demonstrates his familiarity with top-tier competition.
  • Proven Leadership: Chilufya’s ability to step into demanding roles mid-season shows he can quickly adapt and rally players around a common goal.

New Assistant Coach: Jackson Mwanza

In addition to Chilufya’s appointment, Trident FC has named Jackson Mwanza as their new first assistant coach. Mwanza joins from Mpulungu Harbour, where he served as assistant coach. A former striker in his playing days, he brings attacking insights and a fresh perspective to the coaching staff.

His role will be integral in supporting Chilufya, particularly in:

  • Offensive Strategy: Harnessing his forward’s mindset to refine attacking play.
  • Player Development: Working closely with forwards to enhance finishing and movement off the ball.

Mwanza joins a technical bench that includes Arnold Malisawa, Graven Chitalu, and goalkeeper trainer Isaac Shimoko—all set to collaborate in improving the club’s on-field performance.

Aiming for MTN Super League Promotion

Trident FC’s Chief Executive Officer, Mang’ulenje Mvula, expressed confidence that the reshaped technical bench will help the club achieve its objective of earning promotion to the MTN Super League.

“We are confident that under Mr. George Chilufya’s leadership, the team will achieve significant improvement on the field and ultimately qualify for the Super League,” Mvula stated.

Chilufya’s primary mandate is clear: secure a return to the top tier of Zambian football. With the new management structure in place, the club hopes to see an immediate uplift in performances and results.

What’s Next for Trident FC?

As the season progresses, all eyes will be on how quickly Chilufya and Mwanza can implement their strategies. The club’s leadership is counting on this fresh approach to drive a strong finish and keep the dream of Super League football alive.

  1. Immediate Impact: The team’s response in the upcoming matches will reveal whether the coaching changes spark the desired turnaround.
  2. Player Morale: With a new head coach and assistant, player motivation and confidence will be crucial. Early signs of unity and commitment could pave the way for improved results.
  3. Long-Term Vision: Beyond just this season, Trident FC aims to establish a stable foundation for success, with a cohesive technical bench and a clear footballing philosophy.

Trident Football Club’s decision to part ways with Ernest Koffi marks a significant shift in the club’s trajectory. With George Chilufya stepping in as interim head coach and Jackson Mwanza joining as assistant, the Conquerors are betting on a revamped technical bench to guide them toward MTN Super League promotion. Fans and stakeholders alike will be eager to see if these changes yield the much-needed results on the pitch, fulfilling the club’s ambition of a top-flight comeback.
