MTN Super League side Nchanga Rangers have completed the signing of striker Andrew Phiri on a long-term contract, bringing the experienced forward back to Zambian football after spells in Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
Phiri joins the Brave Rangers as a free agent following stints with Singida Black Stars in Tanzania’s NBC Premier League and Hardrock Football Club in Zimbabwe.
Rose to Prominence at FC MUZA
Before embarking on his journey abroad, Phiri established himself as one of Zambia’s most exciting attacking talents during his time at FC MUZA.
The striker enjoyed a breakthrough campaign in the 2021/22 FAZ Division One League, scoring 16 goals to finish as the league’s Newcomers Top Goalscorer. He also received FC MUZA’s Player of the Year award, sponsored by Byta FM, after playing a pivotal role in the club’s promotion to the MTN Super League.
Official statistics from that remarkable season showed Phiri contributed 16 goals and 13 assists, with 10 goals scored with his right foot, three with his left foot and three headers. He finished just one goal behind Democratic Republic of Congo striker Christian Saile in the race for the league’s Golden Boot.
Super League Success Earned Overseas Move
Phiri carried his fine form into the 2022/23 MTN Super League, where he netted 14 goals to finish as FC MUZA’s second-highest scorer behind Andy Boyeli.
His goals helped MUZA secure a remarkable second-place finish and qualify for the 2023/24 CAF Confederation Cup, cementing his reputation as one of the league’s most dangerous forwards.
His outstanding performances earned him a three-year move to Tanzanian Premier League side Singida Black Stars, marking the beginning of his career outside Zambia.
Experienced Forward Returns Home
Following spells in Tanzania with Singida Black Stars and later in Zimbabwe with Hardrock Football Club, Phiri now returns home with added experience.
He scored four goals during his most recent campaign and is expected to provide Nchanga Rangers with leadership, experience and goals as the club prepares for the new MTN Super League season.
