MTN Super League giants Nkana Football Club have confirmed the return of goalkeeper William Mtonga, who has signed a one-year, six-month contract with the Kitwe-based club.
The 26-year-old returns to Kalampa after spells with FC MUZA, Lumwana Radiants and Nchanga Rangers, bringing valuable experience as Nkana continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new season.
A Familiar Face Returns Home
Mtonga is no stranger to the Aba Red faithful, having come through the club’s development ranks.
After beginning his football journey at Rops Academy, he joined Young Nkana in 2016 before earning promotion to the senior team a year later.
His return marks an emotional homecoming as he looks to write a new chapter with the club where his professional career began.
“Nkana Has Always Been in My Heart”
Speaking after completing his move, Mtonga expressed his delight at returning to the club he has always supported.
“I am excited to be back at Nkana Football Club. A lot has changed since I was last here, but one thing has never changed, Nkana has always been in my heart. The years I have spent away have helped me mature both on and off the pitch.”
The goalkeeper reflected on his early years at the club and believes his experiences elsewhere have helped him grow.
“When I came through Young Nkana and into the senior team, I was still learning and competing against experienced goalkeepers. Looking back now, I can say those experiences helped shape me into the goalkeeper I am today.”
Mtonga also sent a heartfelt message to the supporters.
“I grew up watching Nkana. I grew up supporting this club. Even while I was away, Nkana was always close to my heart. Coming back feels special because this club has always been part of me.”
“To the supporters, I am coming home as one of your own. I am your son and I ask for your support as we begin this journey together once again.”
Kapyanga Delighted with Return
Nkana FC Chief Executive Officer Mwansa Kapyanga welcomed Mtonga back, highlighting both his familiarity with the club and the experience he has gained during his time away.
“William understands what it means to represent Nkana Football Club. He came through our development system, knows the expectations that come with this badge and returns having gained important experience at different clubs.”
Kapyanga believes the goalkeeper’s return will increase competition within the squad.
“We believe he has grown tremendously both as a goalkeeper and as a professional. His return strengthens competition within our goalkeeping department and we are confident his experience, maturity and commitment will benefit the team throughout the season.”
Competition Between the Posts
Mtonga’s return gives Nkana added depth in the goalkeeping department as the club prepares for another demanding MTN Super League campaign.
The experienced shot-stopper will be eager to compete for the number one jersey and help Kalampa achieve their ambitions this season.
Conclusion
William Mtonga’s return is more than just another signing—it’s the homecoming of a player who understands the values and traditions of Nkana Football Club.
Armed with valuable experience gained across the Zambian game, the goalkeeper now returns determined to help the 13-time league champions compete for honours once again.
