FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström has congratulated newly appointed Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) General Secretary Charles Chakatazya following his recent appointment to one of the country’s most important football administration positions.
In a congratulatory letter addressed to Chakatazya, the FIFA Secretary General expressed confidence in his leadership and pledged FIFA’s support as he begins his new role at Football House.
The message comes just days after Chakatazya was officially appointed FAZ General Secretary, succeeding Machacha Shepande, who left the position on mutual terms.
FIFA Welcomes Chakatazya’s Appointment
Grafström described Chakatazya’s appointment as an important moment for Zambian football and expressed optimism about the future under his leadership.
“Please allow me to extend my warmest congratulations on your recent appointment as General Secretary of the Football Association of Zambia,” Grafström wrote.
“This marks an exciting new chapter for Zambian football and I have no doubt that your leadership and commitment will bring a lot to the federation and to the development of the game across the country.”
The message highlights FIFA’s confidence in Chakatazya’s ability to contribute positively to the growth and development of football in Zambia.
FIFA Pledges Support
The FIFA Secretary General also assured Chakatazya that football’s world governing body stands ready to support him in his new responsibilities.
“Please know that my team and I are here to support you in any way we can.”
“I’m very much looking forward to working closely together and building a strong collaboration in the years ahead.”
The commitment from FIFA could prove important as FAZ continues implementing football development programmes and strengthening the game at all levels.
Experienced Football Administrator
Chakatazya arrives at Football House with a wealth of experience gained over several years in Zambian football administration.
Before joining FAZ, he served as Chief Executive Officer at several top-flight clubs, including:
- Nkana FC
- Kabwe Warriors
- NAPSA Stars
His extensive administrative background was one of the factors that contributed to his appointment as FAZ General Secretary.
New Chapter for Football House
Since taking office, Chakatazya has already outlined ambitious plans for Zambian football.
Among his priorities are strengthening FAZ’s revenue base, improving football development structures, helping Chipolopolo qualify for the FIFA World Cup, and supporting the Copper Queens’ ambitions of winning the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
The congratulatory message from FIFA provides an early boost as he begins implementing his vision.
Conclusion
Charles Chakatazya’s appointment as FAZ General Secretary continues to attract support from key figures within world football.
With FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström expressing confidence in his leadership and offering FIFA’s support, the new FAZ boss begins his tenure with strong backing from football’s global governing body.
Attention will now turn to how Chakatazya translates his experience and vision into progress for Zambian football.
