Zambian international goalkeeper Toaster Nsabata has made a sensational return to South African outfit Sekhukhune United, just two years after parting ways with the club. The move was officially confirmed by the club, marking Nsabata’s return to Babina Noko as a free agent following the expiration of his contract with ZESCO United last month.
“Sekhukhune United FC confirms the signing of Toaster Nsabata from ZESCO United.
Toaster returns to Babina Noko to add invaluable depth in goal. Welcome home, Toaster,” the club announced.
The 31-year-old is believed to have signed a two-year deal, as he aims to re-establish himself in the DStv Premiership while pushing for a place in the Zambia National Team ahead of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
A Familiar Face at Babina Noko
Nsabata previously featured for Sekhukhune United between 2021 and 2023, where he played a vital role in solidifying the team’s defensive unit. During his time with the Limpopo-based club, he made 36 appearances, kept 14 clean sheets, and conceded 29 goals. His standout performances saw him nominated for PSL Goalkeeper of the Season in his debut campaign.
Following two productive seasons, Nsabata moved to ZESCO United in July 2023, rejoining the MTN Super League, but his stay at the Ndola-based side was short-lived as his contract ran out at the end of the 2024/25 season.
Replacing AFCON-Winning Goalkeeper Sangare
Nsabata reclaims the No.1 spot at Sekhukhune United following the departure of Ali Badra Sangare, the Ivorian shot-stopper who helped Ivory Coast to AFCON 2023 glory. Sangare’s exit at the conclusion of last season opened the door for Sekhukhune to pursue an experienced replacement — and they have now turned to a familiar face in Nsabata.
His return is seen as a strategic move to bring stability and leadership to the backline as Babina Noko looks to improve on their recent campaigns in the South African top flight.
Eyes Set on AFCON Morocco 2025
With AFCON 2025 fast approaching, Nsabata will be eager to get regular playing time and solid performances under his belt to remain in Avram Grant’s plans for Zambia’s national squad. Nsabata has long been a trusted name in Chipolopolo colours and will now be competing with the likes of Lawrence Mulenga and Mangani Banda for the starting role.
This move marks a new chapter in Nsabata’s career — a return to familiar territory with renewed ambition and experience.
