Stalemate in Mazabuka as Power Dynamos Held by FC MUZA

Power Dynamos’ return to domestic action after continental duty ended in frustration as they were held to a goalless draw by FC MUZA in a tense Week Seven MTN Super League encounter at Nakambala Stadium in Mazabuka.

The afternoon clash witnessed by Chipolopolo head coach Avram Grant failed to produce the fireworks many had anticipated, as both sides struggled to find rhythm and penetration in the final third.

The first half offered little in terms of goalmouth action, with the two sides cancelling each other out in midfield. Power Dynamos, still adjusting to their domestic rhythm after CAF Champions League exertions, looked slightly off pace, while MUZA were content to absorb pressure and hit on the counter. Neither side managed to stamp their authority early on, leaving the fans in the stands yearning for a moment of brilliance that never came.

Sensing the need for more attacking spark, Power head coach Mwenya Chipepo (or Mutapa if confirmed correct) rang in the changes, introducing Eddie Ankobo and Chifundo Mphasi for Moses Shumah and Innocent Kashita. Later, Ronel Manyanga, Linos Makwaza Jr., and Kapembwa Musonda were also thrown into the mix to inject fresh energy.

The substitutions brought some urgency, with Power probing more aggressively in the final third. However, MUZA’s defense, marshalled by their disciplined backline, stood firm to deny the defending champions any real scoring chances. In truth, both teams pushed for an opener but lacked the clinical edge to tilt the balance, forcing a share of the spoils at full time.

Speaking after the match, Coach Mutapa admitted disappointment at the result and his team’s performance.

“The game didn’t go according to our plan, but we will continue talking to our players as we prepare for the next one,” he said.

The draw leaves Power Dynamos on eight points, six behind early pacesetters Zanaco FC. With three games in hand, however, the defending champions remain very much in the title picture provided they can rediscover their sharpness in front of goal.

Next up for the Kitwe-based side is a rescheduled Week One home fixture against Red Arrows FC on October 11, a tie that could offer the perfect chance to bounce back and close the growing gap at the top of the table.

For now, though, it’s back to the drawing board for the Power faithful, who will hope their team can rediscover the attacking spark that powered their title run last season.
