Simeon Harawa: TNM Super League Goalkeeper Dies Aged 30

Moyale Barracks and Malawian Football Mourn the Sudden Death of Simeon Harawa

The Malawian football community is in mourning following the sudden death of Moyale Barracks goalkeeper Simeon Harawa, who collapsed during a morning run on Tuesday, 29 April 2025. Harawa, who was 30 years old, was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital, sending shockwaves across the TNM Super League and beyond.

The tragedy occurred just days after Harawa featured in Moyale’s 1-1 league draw with Civil Service United. He had also started in the Airtel Top 8 quarterfinal clash against Silver Strikers on April 21 and was between the posts when Moyale Barracks secured an impressive 2-0 victory over Kamuzu Barracks earlier in the campaign.

In-Form Goalkeeper Leaves Behind a Legacy of Dedication

Harawa had enjoyed a strong start to the 2025 TNM Super League season, keeping two clean sheets and conceding just twice in four competitive matches. A key figure at the military-based club, Harawa was known for his consistency, discipline, and professionalism. According to a source within Moyale Barracks, there were no prior signs of health issues.

“It was shocking to hear of his passing,” said a team source. “He normally goes for a morning run before team training. I was at the training ground waiting for him when I was informed he had been taken to the hospital. Later, we were told he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

Moyale Barracks Football Club released a statement confirming the heartbreaking news, honouring Harawa’s commitment both on and off the pitch.

Club and Country Pay Tribute to a Fallen Hero

“Moyale Barracks FC regrets to announce the passing of our goalkeeper, Simeon Harawa, who died on April 29, 2025. Born on March 25, 1995, Harawa joined the club in 2015 and the Malawi Defence Force in 2019. He was a dedicated player and teammate,” the club’s official statement read.

The club also confirmed that Harawa will be laid to rest on May 1 with full military honours, befitting his service to both the Malawi Defence Force and football.

The Football Association of Malawi (FAM) also expressed its condolences, calling Harawa’s death a significant loss to the game in Malawi.

“His passing is a huge loss to Malawian football,” said FAM. “He was a talented and passionate goalkeeper whose dedication inspired many.”

A Void Left in the TNM Super League

Simeon Harawa’s untimely death is not only a personal tragedy for his family, teammates, and club, but also a major blow to the TNM Super League. As Moyale Barracks prepare to honour his memory in the coming days, tributes have continued to pour in from clubs, players, fans, and officials across the footballing spectrum.

In moments like these, the football family comes together not just to mourn, but to celebrate the life of a player whose impact will never be forgotten.
