Zambian utility player Gamphani Lungu continued his impressive start to the season after finding the net as Orlando Pirates defeated Sekhukhune United 3-0 to book their place in the MTN8 final.
Lungu struck six minutes before half-time to double Pirates’ advantage after Thapelo Mokobodi had opened the scoring in the 36th minute. The Zambian showed composure inside the box, finishing a move created by Yanela Mbuthuma to put the Buccaneers firmly in control.
The goal was Lungu’s third in all competitions this season, further underlining his growing importance to the South African giants. He also started the second half brightly, forcing a save from a tight angle as Pirates continued to push for more goals.
Sekhukhune attempted to fight their way back into the contest after the break, but Pirates remained organised and eventually added a third through Kamogelo Sebelebele in the closing stages.
The victory completed a 4-0 aggregate win for Orlando Pirates, who had secured a 1-0 victory in the first leg.
Pirates have now reached the MTN8 final for a record fifth consecutive time, continuing their remarkable dominance in South Africa’s traditional season-opening cup competition.
They will face either Mamelodi Sundowns or Lamontville Golden Arrows in the final, with the second semi-final set to be decided on Sunday.
For Lungu, the latest goal provides further evidence of his excellent start to the campaign and will boost his confidence as he looks to maintain his place in the Pirates setup.
