Dedza Dynamos Sack Coach Andrew Bunya After 4-0 Home Rout
Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos have sacked head coach Andrew Bunya following a humiliating 4-0 defeat to Karonga United at Dedza Stadium. The club’s statement confirmed the decision was driven by the team’s poor run of form and called the move “both a strategic and technical decision” to kick-start “professional activities” aimed at improving performance in the short term.
In the 18 May fixture, Dynamos were beaten soundly 4-0 by Karonga United. It marked their second successive home defeat of the season. According to reports, the four Karonga goals were scored by Godfrey Mkoko, Allen Chihana, Nature Kaonga and Alick Austin. Such a comprehensive loss at home stunned fans and left the club’s leadership with little choice but to act swiftly.
Poor Form and Mounting Pressure
Dedza’s woes had been growing even before the Karonga thrashing. Just days earlier, Nyasa Big Bullets scored an 89th-minute goal to win 1-0 at Dedza Stadium – their first-ever league victory on Dynamos’ home ground. After that loss, Bunya himself had acknowledged that “the pressure is there” as his side struggled near the bottom of the table. Supporters and club partners were becoming increasingly frustrated. The Dynamos eventually apologised to their fans and sponsors for the run of poor results, pledging to address the problems “with the required level of urgency”. By mid-May, Dedza Dynamos were languishing in 10th place in the TNM Super League with just six points from six games.
Impact on TNM Super League Standings
The TNM Super League table (after Matchweek 7) highlights Dedza’s precarious position. FCB Nyasa Big Bullets lead the league with 15 points, and Mighty Wanderers are second with Karonga’s win propelled them into third place on 9 points, while Dedza Dynamos remained in 10th with only 6 points. In such a tight competition, every point counts – Dedza’s back-to-back home defeats have left them well adrift of the leaders early in the season.

What’s Next for Dedza Dynamos
With Bunya departed, the club must now regroup quickly. The statement made clear that the move was intended to spark immediate changes “in the short run” to boost the team’s fortunes. Dedza’s management will be under pressure to appoint a new head coach (even on an interim basis) and to address tactical and morale issues ahead of upcoming fixtures. The players and remaining staff will need to respond rapidly if the club is to reverse its slide in the standings.
The departure of Andrew Bunya underscores the high expectations and scrutiny at Premier Bet Dedza Dynamos. In the competitive TNM Super League, a couple of damaging home defeats were enough to seal the coach’s fate. The swift action highlights the club’s urgency to appease concerned fans and sponsors, and it marks a fresh start as Dedza seek to revive their season.
