Referee Shem Nyondo Suspended
The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) has announced the indefinite suspension of referee Shem Nyondo following a review of his performance during the Week 17 fixture between Kabwe Warriors and Nkana Football Club. The match, which ended in a 1-1 draw, was held on December 18, 2024, at the Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium in Kabwe.
In a press statement released on December 22, 2024, ZPL’s Head of Communications, Christina Zulu, stated that Nyondo’s officiating was found to be below the required standards, prompting immediate action from the referees’ sub-committee.
Zulu explained that Nyondo has been suspended indefinitely from officiating ZPL matches pending further investigations into the matter. The Technical Committee of the Referees Sub-committee will review the findings and make a final decision regarding his future.
The ZPL reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of officiating to uphold the fairness, integrity, and credibility of the league as part of its broader mission to professionalize and commercialize Zambian football.
This decision underscores ZPL’s dedication to ensuring quality officiating in all competitions.
