SEBASTIAN MWANSA – A Forgotten Gem of Zambian Football?
A name that still echoes among true followers of Zambian football. Sebastian Mwansa, the gifted winger and captain of the Zambia U20 side in 2007, led a golden generation to a 4th-place finish at the AFCON U20 and guided them into the Round of 16 at the FIFA U20 World Cup a huge achievement for the country at youth level.
Who can forget his fearless runs and composure on the ball? By 2015, he was still making headlines, earning the Man of the Match award in the ABSA Cup (then Barclays Cup) proof of his enduring talent.
Yet despite such promise and performances, Sebastian never truly cemented a place in the senior national team. A case that leaves many fans wondering: Why?
Was it timing? Injuries? Politics in team selection? Or just a missed opportunity?
Sebastian Mwansa is a reminder of how many Zambian talents shine brightly at youth level but fade out before leaving their full mark on the senior stage. His story remains both inspiring and thought-provoking.
