Prison Leopards’ Jeff Lungu Reflects on Tough Season Amid Promotion Push
Prison Leopards goalkeeper Jeff Lungu has admitted that the 2024/25 season has been challenging for his team, with their promotion hopes to the Zambia Premier Super League still hanging in the balance.
The Correct Boys currently sit sixth on the National Division One log with 50 points, with only two matches left before the season wraps up. Their latest 2-0 win over Aguila Stars at President’s Stadium has slightly revived their chances of climbing into a promotion spot.
In that crucial match, Lungu kept a clean sheet, making several vital saves to deny Aguila Stars any chance of a comeback.
So far, the former Zesco Shockers shot-stopper has managed 12 clean sheets across all competitions this season, underlining his importance to the team’s defensive setup.
Speaking in an exclusive interview, Lungu opened up about the hardships faced this campaign:
“It has not been easy playing in the National Division One League because every team we have faced wanted to prove a point by beating us since we are a team coming from the Super League,” he said.
Despite the challenges, Lungu remains determined, setting personal and team goals.
“I was working hard to help my team secure promotion to the Super League, but it’s been a tight race because most of the teams above us have been strong. My target was to come out as the best goalkeeper, but it has not been easy — I have only managed 12 clean sheets,” he reflected.
Prison Leopards now face a crucial clash against Chambishi FC next Wednesday, where they must secure a victory to keep their slim promotion hopes alive.
As the season nears its dramatic end, all eyes will be on Lungu and the Correct Boys to see if they can pull off a late surge into the Elite division.
