Final Round of National League Fixtures Suspended by ZPL Pending Judicial Outcomes
The Zambian Premier League (ZPL) has officially suspended all Week 34 fixtures in the National Division One League until further notice. The announcement, made on May 1, 2025, comes amid ongoing judicial reviews that could significantly affect the promotion and relegation standings in Zambia’s second-tier football division.
The ZPL emphasized that the move is aimed at protecting the integrity of the league and ensuring all decisions regarding final standings are made fairly and transparently.
Ensuring Fair Play and Transparency in Promotion Battles
The 2024–25 National League season has been hotly contested, with clubs like Konkola Blades already securing promotion while others remain locked in fierce battles for top-four spots and survival. However, ongoing legal matters involving select clubs have created uncertainty that must be resolved before the league can conclude the final round of matches.
“This decision has been made to facilitate the completion of judicial reviews related to ongoing cases that may influence promotion and relegation outcomes in the National League,” read the ZPL statement.
The ZPL has not disclosed the specifics of the judicial matters but reaffirmed its commitment to a just outcome.
New Date for Week 34 Fixtures to Be Announced
While the final day of fixtures was highly anticipated—especially with potential playoff and relegation deciders—ZPL has called for patience and cooperation from clubs and fans. A new date for Week 34 will be communicated once all necessary reviews are completed.
“The integrity and fairness of the competition remain our top priority. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding,” the league concluded.
This is not the first time Zambian football authorities have delayed fixtures due to administrative issues, but this suspension highlights the growing emphasis on upholding competition standards across all levels.
