Kansanshi Dynamos produced a disciplined defensive display to hold MTN Super League champions Power Dynamos to a 0-0 draw in Wednesday’s rescheduled Week 25 fixture played at Independence Stadium in Solwezi.
The Mabanga Boys matched the league champions throughout the contest in a tactical and high-intensity encounter, with both sides creating opportunities but failing to find the breakthrough.
Despite Power Dynamos dominating sections of the game through set-pieces and attacking pressure, Kansanshi Dynamos remained organised at the back and showed determination to secure an important point on home soil.
Fast Start From Both Sides
The game started at a lively pace, with Power Dynamos showing early attacking intent.
In the 3rd minute, Kapembwa Musonda became the first player to enter the referee’s book after fouling Willy Bokingo as tensions quickly rose in the opening exchanges.
Power Dynamos continued to threaten from dead-ball situations and nearly created an early breakthrough in the 9th minute following a dangerous free-kick. However, the Kansanshi Dynamos defence stood firm, with Kalonji Mwepu helping clear the danger before Salulani Phiri fired over the crossbar.
The visitors continued to pile pressure through successive corners around the 13th minute, but Matthews Banda produced vital clearances to keep the score level.
Mabanga Boys Respond
Kansanshi Dynamos gradually grew into the game and began creating attacking moments of their own.
A free-kick from Bakodila in the 16th minute failed to seriously test goalkeeper Willard Mwanza, who comfortably gathered the effort.
Moments later, Gregory Sanjase produced one of the key defensive moments of the match when he denied league top scorer Moses Shuma from close range, preventing Power Dynamos from taking the lead.
The Mabanga Boys nearly punished the visitors shortly afterwards, but Kalonji Mwepu’s effort could only find the side netting.
Tactical Second Half Battle
Kansanshi Dynamos returned from the break looking more aggressive and won consecutive corners during the opening stages of the second half as they searched for the opener.
In the 56th minute, Willy Bokingo made way for Bebe Onka Musangula as the hosts attempted to add fresh attacking energy.
Power Dynamos continued to rely heavily on set-pieces, but the Kansanshi defence remained compact and disciplined throughout the contest.
A brief stoppage occurred in the 63rd minute after Bebe Musangula was involved in a challenge with Linos Makwaza Jr., forcing medics onto the pitch.
As the game entered its closing stages, Kansanshi Dynamos pushed harder for a late winner, but Power Dynamos held firm to ensure the points were shared.
Makinka Praises Team Spirit
Speaking after the match, Kansanshi Dynamos assistant coach Dennis Makinka praised his players for their fighting spirit against one of the strongest teams in the league.
“It was a difficult game with a high tempo from beginning to end. My boys accounted for themselves well,” said Makinka.
The assistant coach admitted chances were limited in what he described as a tactical contest.
“We had chances, especially from set-pieces, but we could not benefit from them. We didn’t create much, it was a tactical game.”
Makinka also praised the quality of Power Dynamos while expressing satisfaction with the point earned.
“They are a very good team, but we planned for them. We will take a point, it’s not a bad result for us.”
He added that the team would continue building momentum ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
“We will build from this in our next game. There is good team spirit now, and we will keep fighting until the last game.”
Conclusion
Although neither side managed to find the back of the net, the match delivered an intense tactical battle between two organised teams.
For Kansanshi Dynamos, the result represents a valuable point against the league champions and a performance that will boost confidence heading into the final stages of the season. Meanwhile, Power Dynamos continue their campaign after being frustrated by a determined Mabanga Boys side in Solwezi.
