Kenneth Malitoli Urges Zambian Strikers to Improve Goal Conversion

Kenneth Malitoli Urges Zambian Strikers To Improve Goal Conversation

Former Nkana and Chipolopolo striker Kenneth ‘Bubble’ Malitoli has challenged strikers in the MTN Super League to improve their finishing and goal conversion as concerns continue to grow over the number of chances being wasted in Zambian football.

The legendary forward believes Zambia has talented attackers capable of scoring consistently, but insists many strikers are not doing enough to convert opportunities during matches.

Malitoli’s comments come at a time when Power Dynamos striker Moses Shumah has dominated the MTN Super League scoring charts with an impressive 21 goals, while Chipolopolo forward Albert Kangwanda sits a distant second with 11 goals.

Concern Over Conversion Rate

Speaking in an interview, Malitoli said the biggest issue affecting many local strikers is their inability to turn chances into goals despite receiving enough opportunities during games.

“I would say we have the strikers; the only thing that bothers me is the conversion rate. Chances are always there, but the misses are plenty; players need to push themselves,” he said.

The former Nkana striker explained that modern football demands efficiency in front of goal, especially for forwards expected to decide matches.

Importance of Self-Evaluation

Malitoli also encouraged players to regularly assess their individual performances after every match.

According to the former Chipolopolo striker, attackers should always question their contribution on the pitch instead of being satisfied with simply participating.

“Week in, week out, you have to start thinking, what have I done in this game? What is it that I have contributed as a striker? If the answer is no, have I created any chance?” he said.

He added that strikers must develop a mentality of constantly improving and pushing themselves to become more productive.

Developing Predatory Instincts

The former striker further urged forwards to sharpen their instincts inside the penalty area and improve their movement in dangerous positions.

“You must be hanging just around the penalty yard, and if you have good players around you, the chances are that they will give you balls which you will score,” he said.

Malitoli’s remarks highlight the importance of anticipation, positioning, and composure — qualities that separate elite goalscorers from average attackers.

Shumah Setting the Standard

Kenyan striker Moses Shumah has emerged as the benchmark for attacking efficiency this season after scoring 21 goals for Power Dynamos.

His impressive form has not only strengthened Power Dynamos’ title-winning campaign but has also exposed the struggles many local forwards have faced in front of goal.

Meanwhile, Albert Kangwanda remains the closest challenger with 11 goals, although the significant gap between the two forwards has sparked debate among fans and football analysts.

Conclusion

As the MTN Super League continues to grow in competitiveness, Malitoli believes strikers must become more ruthless and consistent if Zambian football is to produce more prolific goalscorers.

With the season nearing its conclusion, his comments may serve as motivation for many local forwards looking to improve their performances and raise the standard of attacking football in the country.
