Muza Camp Divided as Management Denies Player Boycott Reports

Muza Camp Divided as Management Denies Player Boycott Reports

FC Muza’s impressive start to the 2025–26 MTN Super League season has been overshadowed by internal unrest after players reportedly boycotted training over unpaid salaries and winning bonuses. The Mazabuka-based club, known for its exciting attacking football, is now facing mounting pressure behind the scenes as financial disputes threaten team morale.

Players Allegedly Refuse to Train Over Salary Delays

According to sources within the club, Tuesday morning’s training session in Mazabuka saw no players in attendance, with only the coaching staff present. Players are believed to be protesting over unpaid September wages and outstanding bonuses from three league victories.

“Only the coaches were there waiting, but the players refused to take part,” a source revealed.

Club Leadership Denies Boycott Claims

Despite multiple confirmations from internal sources, FC Muza secretary general Ellias Banda dismissed the reports when contacted.

“It’s not true. I think they are just reports,” Banda told Bolanews in a phone interview on Wednesday.

However, information gathered indicates that attempts to resume training on Wednesday were also unsuccessful, with players still absent from the session.

Strong League Start Overshadowed by Turmoil

Muza began the campaign strongly with a draw against Zanaco followed by three consecutive wins, earning praise from fans across the country. But momentum has since stalled, with two straight defeats and a tense draw against Power Dynamos last weekend — a slump some believe may be linked to internal frustration.

Post-Mweemba Transition Affecting Club Stability

Tensions have reportedly been rising since the departure of Keith Mweemba, who resigned as club president after being elected FAZ president. Sources suggest that leadership changes and financial delays have created uncertainty among both players and staff.

“The leadership change has created a bit of uncertainty, and financial delays seem to have added pressure on everyone,” a club insider explained.

Conclusion

Whether officially acknowledged or not, all indications suggest that FC Muza are wrestling with off-field challenges that could derail their season if not resolved quickly. With the team still within reach of the league leaders, urgent intervention will be crucial to restore unity and maintain competitiveness.
