Week Two of the 2025/26 MTN Super League lived up to the hype, producing 17 goals across nine matches a significant improvement from the 10 strikes recorded in the opening round. From dramatic comebacks to hat-tricks and early title statements, the league is already shaping into a fiercely competitive campaign.
Here’s a full breakdown of the weekend action.
Nchanga Rangers: Early Pace-Setters
Chingola-based Nchanga Rangers are proving they are no pushovers this season. After edging Konkola Blades in their opening match, Rangers followed it up with a 1-0 away victory against Green Eagles at Independence Stadium in Choma.
Once again, it was Christopher Ilonga Itaka who proved decisive, scoring in the 23rd minute. The striker has now netted in back-to-back games, showing early signs of becoming one of the league’s golden boot contenders.
The result puts Rangers on top of the log table with a perfect start — a position few would have predicted before kickoff.
Defending Champions Show Character: Power Dynamos
At Edwin Imboela Stadium, Power Dynamos kick-started their title defense in dramatic fashion. Facing Green Buffaloes, the defending champions fell behind in the 12th minute to a Bornwell Mwape strike, his second goal in as many games.
But champions know how to respond. Power equalized through last season’s top scorer Brian Masanyinga in the 33rd minute before Linos Makwaza Jr headed in the winner just after the hour mark.
The 2-1 comeback victory not only handed Power Dynamos their first points of the campaign (having missed Week One due to international duty) but also reminded everyone why they remain the team to beat.
Red Arrows Fly High with Sadam Yusuf Phiri Hat-Trick
In Lusaka, Red Arrows produced the standout performance of the weekend with a 4-1 thrashing of newcomers Mines United.
Club captain Sadam Yusuf Phiri stole the headlines with the league’s first hat-trick of the season, a statement that underlined his importance to Arrows’ title push. Albert Kangwanda added a fourth late on to seal the rout.
Mines United, however, had little to celebrate besides a consolation penalty from Mwachiaba Akakulubelwa on his league debut. For the promoted side, the gulf in class was evident, and they remain rooted at the bottom with Mutondo Stars.
ZESCO United Flex Muscles
After a frustrating start last week, ZESCO United reminded everyone of their pedigree with a commanding 3-0 victory over Mutondo Stars.
Abraham Siakombo scored twice — the first brace of the season — before David Simukonda, last season’s Young Footballer of the Year, sealed the win.
The emphatic victory reasserts ZESCO’s credentials as genuine challengers for Power Dynamos’ crown, while Mutondo Stars find themselves bottom of the log without a point.
FC MUZA 2–0 Konkola Blades — A Statement from Mazabuka
FC MUZA found their rhythm after a quiet Week One draw, delivering a polished and confident win over Konkola Blades. Goals from Rickson Ng’ambi and Given Kalusa showcased MUZA’s potent counter-attacking style and superior fitness levels. Their ability to control tempo and capitalize on chances signals they may emerge as dark horses this season. For Konkola Blades, it’s a wake-up call—they must regroup quickly if they hope to challenge for top-tier stability.
Zanaco 1–0 Kansanshi Dynamos — Sensational Zanaco Get Rolling
After two underwhelming performances, Zanaco finally clicked when it mattered, edging out Kansanshi Dynamos with a decisive Araina Lambert strike. The goal, born from calm build-up play, marked a return to form. This small yet significant win could be the catalyst Zanaco needs to regain confidence and consistency. On the reverse, Kansanshi must now address defensive frailties if they want to remain competitive mid-season.
Nkana 1–1 Nkwazi — Nkana Still Searching for Their First Win
The atmosphere was electric at Nkana Stadium as passionate fans hoped for their team’s first victory of the campaign. Mathews Banda ignited optimism with an opener, but Nkana’s joy was short-lived—Billy Daka leveled the score seven minutes after coming on, denying the hosts all three points. Nkana’s back-to-back draws highlight their early-season inertia. With two points from two games, the pressure is mounting on Coach Musonda to find a winning formula.
Mufulira Wanderers 0–0 NAPSA Stars — A Tactical Stalemate
In a tightly contested match in Mufulira, both Wanderers and NAPSA Stars showcased disciplined defensive setups, resulting in a goalless draw. Neither side could break through tactically, underlining the importance of set-piece threats and finishing in upcoming fixtures. For Wanderers, home form will be critical; for NAPSA Stars, consistency away from home remains a major goal.
Kabwe Warriors 0–0 FC Leopards — Cagey Derbies and Early Nerves
The Kabwe derby between Warriors and newly promoted FC Leopards ended in a scoreless draw, but the match was anything but flat. Both teams played cautiously, wary of making a costly mistake. Warriors, typically dominant in Kabwe, struggled to impose themselves and lacked forward execution. Leopards, though defensively compact, must find attacking fluency to avoid early-season stagnation.
Week Two of the MTN Super League had everything — goals, drama, hat-tricks, comebacks, and heartbreak. As the competition gathers pace, one thing is clear: this season will be as unpredictable as it is entertaining.
With Nchanga Rangers setting the early pace, Power Dynamos showing resilience, and ZESCO United flexing their muscles, the battle for supremacy promises fireworks. At the same time, the struggles of newcomers Mines United and Mutondo Stars will be worth watching as the season unfolds.
For fans, the message is simple: don’t blink — the 2025/26 MTN Super League is only just getting started.
