Aguila Stars FC have confirmed the appointment of Brian Kunsanama as the club’s new head coach, with former Chipolopolo midfielder William Njobvu joining him as first assistant coach. The Queensmead-based club is making bold moves as they prepare for the 2025/26 Zambian National League season, aiming to challenge for MTN Super League promotion.
Strategic Shift for Aguila Stars
Kunsanama, who previously led Atletico Lusaka, takes over a side that finished 11th in the 2024/25 National League with 40 points. His arrival signals a clear intent to shift gears and push higher up the table.
“Aguila Stars FC is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian Kunsanama as Head Coach of the senior men’s team ahead of the 2025/26 National League season,” read the club’s official statement.
The club thanked interim coach Ignitious Lwipa, who now moves into the second assistant coach role under the new technical structure.
Kunsanama’s Style to Reshape Aguila
Known for his passing and possession-based philosophy, Kunsanama earned admiration while guiding Atletico Lusaka—even as they faced relegation from the Super League last season. His modern approach and emphasis on player development align with Aguila’s vision for long-term growth and top-flight football.
A Zambian Legend Joins the Dugout
Joining Kunsanama is William Njobvu, a name synonymous with Zambian football excellence. A former international who featured in three AFCON tournaments (2006, 2008, and 2010) and represented Zambia at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Njobvu brings vast experience to the technical bench.
Njobvu had stints in Israel with Kiryat Shmona and Hapoel Beer Sheva, and also played locally for clubs like Lusaka Dynamos and Kabwe Warriors. His insight into both domestic and international football will be crucial in mentoring Aguila’s young talents.
Eyes on Super League Promotion
Aguila Stars are clearly not content with mid-table finishes. The new coaching team of Kunsanama, Njobvu, and Lwipa is expected to bring fresh ideas, energy, and belief to a team that showed flashes of potential last season.
The 2025/26 season could mark a turning point for Aguila Stars as they aim to rise among the National League contenders.
