The legendary Super League side announced that it had parted ways with Chilumba by mutual agreement, effective June 13, 2025, as confirmed in an official statement.
The End of the Chilumba Era
Chilumba joined Mufulira Wanderers in October 2024 and was brought in to revive the team’s fortunes. However, after a challenging period, both parties agreed to part ways. According to sources close to the club, Chilumba tendered his resignation on June 13, with the official announcement delayed until June 23 to allow internal discussions to conclude.
The Arrival of Lameck Banda
With the Chilumba chapter closed, attention has now shifted to Lameck Banda. The highly-rated coach is expected to assume the role immediately, with preparations for the 2025–26 MTN Super League season already underway. Banda will be assisted by Bupe Chewe, reuniting the coaching duo that worked together at Prison Leopards during the 2023–24 campaign.
Chewe, who later joined River Plate FC, and Banda, who departed FC MUZA before the end of the 2024–25 campaign, have both been unattached until this appointment. Together, they are set to lead the legendary Mufulira Wanderers into a new era.
Why Lameck Banda?
Banda arrives with a strong reputation for nurturing talent and achieving results. At FC MUZA, he guided the team to a second-place finish in the 2022–23 MTN Super League season, securing a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup. The same campaign also saw him lead MUZA to the ABSA Cup final, where they finished as runners-up to Forest Rangers.
Mufulira Wanderers’ faithful are hopeful that Banda can replicate this success and help the team reclaim its former glory as one of Zambia’s most historic football clubs.
Conclusion
An official unveiling of Lameck Banda as the new Mufulira Wanderers head coach is expected on Tuesday. The club will be hoping that this appointment marks the beginning of a successful era defined by competitive consistency, solid results, and a long-awaited return to the top echelons of Zambian football.
