Mufulira Wanderers Football Club has confirmed the departure of head coach Tenant Chilumba following a mutual agreement between the two parties. The announcement, made on June 23rd, 2025, marks the end of Chilumba’s short tenure with the iconic Zambian club.
Chilumba, who joined the “Mighty” in October 2024, guided the team through the 2024/25 MTN Super League campaign, finishing in 8th place. Under his leadership, Wanderers played 34 games, registering 13 wins, 6 draws, and 15 losses, scoring 30 goals and conceding 31 to accumulate 45 points.
Club Statement Confirms Exit
In an official statement released by the club, Mufulira Wanderers revealed that the decision followed internal consultations with Chilumba’s representative, Mr. Nawa Nyambe. While Chilumba had initially tendered his resignation, the club’s leadership opted for a mutual separation, describing the move as a step toward “harmony and progress.”
“We acknowledge and appreciate his contribution during his time with the club and wish him nothing but success in his future coaching endeavors,” read part of the club’s statement.
MEDIA STATEMENT: MUTUAL SEPARATION WITH COACH TENANT CHILUMBA
Mufulira Wanderers Football Club wishes to announce that it has reached a mutual agreement to part ways with Head Coach Tenant Chilumba, effective 13th June 2025.
This decision follows a series of internal engagements and consultations with Mr. Nawa Nyambe, the agent and representative of coach Chilumba, aimed at ensuring the best possible outcome for both parties. While Coach Chilumba tendered his resignation, the Club has, after careful consideration and in the spirit of maintaining harmony and progress, agreed to his departure.
Coach Chilumba joined the club in October 2024. We acknowledge and appreciate his contribution during his time with the club and wish him nothing but success in his future coaching endeavors.
Mufulira Wanderers is now focused on beginning a new chapter, with plans already underway to identify a new head coach who aligns with the Club’s long-term vision and development strategy.
We thank our supporters, stakeholders, and the football community at large for their continued trust and encouragement as we take this next step in our journey.

Wanderers Begin Search for New Coach
With Chilumba’s departure now confirmed, the club has set its sights on a new chapter. The Mufulira Wanderers executive committee emphasized that the focus is on appointing a coach who aligns with the club’s long-term vision and development strategy.
“We are now focused on beginning a new chapter, with plans already underway to identify a new head coach who shares our ambition,” added the statement.
The new coach will be expected to build on the solid foundation laid last season, as the team aims to push higher in the standings during the 2025/26 MTN Super League season.
Chilumba’s Track Record at Wanderers
Though his tenure was short, Chilumba brought stability and professionalism to the club. He helped navigate the team through a difficult mid-season period and contributed to notable victories that kept Wanderers in the top half of the table.
His time at Wanderers adds to a seasoned coaching career that has seen him take charge of various clubs across the MTN Super League and National League, as well as previous stints with the Zambian national team setup.
What’s Next for Mufulira Wanderers?
The club’s 2024/25 campaign saw them finish with 45 points—respectable for a team that had its fair share of highs and lows. With a new coach soon to be appointed, the Wanderers faithful will be hopeful for a stronger push in the upcoming season.
The executive committee has reassured fans that updates on the next appointment will be made in due course.
