The ZPL is Back: 2024/25 Season Promises Fire
The Carling Black Label “Samuel Zoom Ndhlovu” Charity Shield will ignite the 2024/25 Zambian Premier League season at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola on August 10, 2024. Champions Kabwe Warriors will face off against Red Arrows in what promises to be an electrifying encounter.
Last season, the two teams met twice in the league and once in the ABSA Cup final. Their first league match on December 3, 2023, ended in a 1-1 draw, while the second league match saw Kabwe Warriors secure a 1-0 victory. However, Red Arrows triumphed over Warriors with a 2-1 win in the ABSA Cup final. The upcoming Charity Shield match is set to further fuel the rivalry between the two tactically astute coaches, Numba Mumamba of Kabwe Warriors and Chisi Mbewe of Red Arrows.
Additionally, the inaugural Women’s Charity Shield will see Green Buffaloes Ladies take on Choma Warriors in an early kickoff match. This clash promises to be equally thrilling as Choma Warriors, champions of the women’s national league, aim to make a statement in the super league. Key players to watch include Choma Warriors’ young midfielder Natasha Nkaka, who recently helped the Copper Princesses qualify for the 2024 Dominican Republic FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup. Green Buffaloes, on the other hand, will field a strong lineup as they prepare for the Cosafa CAF Champions League qualifier tournament in Malawi, with prolific midfielder Evarine Susan Katonga leading the charge.
Fans are encouraged to come in numbers to enjoy these two matches and the festive atmosphere, complete with chilled Carling Black Label, the Champions beer. This event promises to set the tone for an exciting season ahead in the Zambian Premier League.
