MTN Super League Week 17 Results
While most Nkana headlines this season have been sung in the mournful tones of defeat, today’s match at Sunset Stadium in Lusaka was a joyful carol, a 1-0 victory over archrivals Zanaco. In a game that felt like an early Christmas present for the Kitwe faithful, Nkana silenced the doubters and proved they still have the bite to compete with the league’s best.
The hero of the day was striker Royd Katuta, who found the net in the 43rd minute, a gift that proved to be the only one needed. This solitary strike secured Nkana their fourth win of the season, a rare gem amidst the rougher stones of their campaign.
Although the victory wasn’t enough to haul them completely out of the relegation zone, it does lift them to 15th place with 16 points, a glimmer of hope in the darkness. For Zanaco, under manager Wedson Nyirenda, this defeat stings, particularly as it came on enemy soil.
Elsewhere in the league, festive cheer was also shared, albeit in smaller doses. Mufulira Wanderers, after taking the lead against Zesco United through Owen Mwamba in the 69th minute, saw their Christmas joy dashed by Enock Sakala’s equalizer five minutes later, settling for a 1-1 draw.

Konkola Blades and Prison Leopards also exchanged gifts in a 1-1 draw, while Power Dynamos and Napsa Stars enjoyed a similar festive stalemate. Green Buffaloes, however, feasted on Trident with a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Golden Mashata and George Ngoma.
Finally, Nkwazi added to the festive spirit with a 1-0 win over Green Eagles.
So, as Zambian football takes a breather for the holidays, let us savor the sweet taste of Nkana’s victory, a reminder that even in the darkest of times, the spirit of competition and the joy of the game can still shine through. Here’s hoping for more festive cheer in the new year for all the teams in the MTN Super League!
