Mines United FC Establishes Council of Elders Ahead of MTN Super League Debut

Newly promoted Mines United FC has made a powerful statement of intent as it prepares for its first-ever season in the MTN Super League, Zambia’s elite football competition. In a move that reflects both strategic foresight and deep respect for the game’s legacy, the club has announced the formation of a “Council of Elders”, comprising some of the nation’s most respected football veterans.

Unveiled by Club Chairman Mathew Mohan, the Council of Elders is expected to play a pivotal role in guiding the Ndola-based outfit both on and off the pitch. According to Mohan, this initiative is aimed at building a strong football culture and identity as Mines United transitions from second-tier football to the top flight.

“Mines United FC has officially appointed the Council of Elders to encourage and bring glory to Mines United,” said Mohan. “We believe that history and our present status will propel Mines United FC to the status that we seek to achieve.”

Legends at the Helm

The Council will be chaired by veteran coach Danny Kabwe, known for his vast experience in Zambian football, and former Zambia national team coach Patrick Phiri will serve as Vice Chairman. Phiri, who led Zambia to the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations, brings invaluable top-level coaching insights to the club.

The council also includes the legendary Malitoli brothersKenneth and Mordon—both former Chipolopolo stars who enjoyed distinguished careers domestically and internationally. Frederick Kashimoto, another well-respected figure in Zambian football history, completes the lineup.

This panel of football icons is tasked with offering strategic input on technical, developmental, and cultural aspects of the club’s operations. Their experience is expected to shape Mines United’s approach to player development, match preparation, and club philosophy.

A Vision Rooted in Experience

Mines United’s meteoric rise from the lower ranks to Zambia’s top football division has already turned heads, but the club’s ambition clearly doesn’t end with promotion. The formation of this council highlights an intent to cement long-term success, not just survive the Super League.

With seasoned professionals at the helm, Mines United is positioning itself as a club that values heritage, discipline, and mentorship. These values are expected to trickle down to the players, technical staff, and supporters alike.

Their bold strategy serves as an example for other clubs aiming to professionalize and remain competitive in a league increasingly defined by tactical discipline, consistency, and long-term planning.

Fans Look Ahead to a Promising Campaign

As the 2025 MTN Super League season draws closer, Mines United enters the spotlight with anticipation and expectation. The club has captured the imagination of fans with its strategic leadership approach, and all eyes will be on how this off-field initiative translates into on-field performance.

If their recent decisions are anything to go by, Mines United is not only ready to compete—but to inspire
