English Premier League giants Manchester United have officially parted ways with head coach Ruben Amorim, bringing an end to his tenure after one year and two months at Old Trafford.
The decision follows a period of growing internal concern over performances, tactical rigidity, and leadership dynamics within the squad.
Reasons Behind the Decision
According to Sky Sports News, Amorim’s emotional and inconsistent behaviour played a significant role in the club’s decision. United’s hierarchy reportedly grew frustrated with the Portuguese coach’s refusal to adapt his preferred 3-4-3 formation, which ultimately led to a loss of confidence from senior leadership.
Despite flashes of progress, the lack of tactical evolution was viewed as a major obstacle to the club’s long-term ambitions.
Club Statement
Manchester United confirmed Amorim’s departure in an official statement released on Monday morning.
“Ruben Amorim has departed his role as Head Coach of Manchester United,” the club announced.
“Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May.
With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.”
Mixed Spell at Old Trafford
Amorim’s reign was defined by inconsistency. While guiding United to the UEFA Europa League final represented a notable achievement, domestic performances failed to meet expectations, with the club currently sixth in the Premier League.
The inability to sustain momentum across competitions ultimately proved costly.
Interim Arrangements
United confirmed that Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team on an interim basis, starting with Wednesday’s Premier League clash against Burnley, as the club begins the search for a permanent successor.
Conclusion
Ruben Amorim’s departure marks yet another reset at Manchester United as the club looks to salvage its season and restore stability. With key fixtures ahead, all eyes now turn to who will be trusted to lead the Red Devils into their next chapter.
