ZESCO United Thrash Roan United 4-0 to Claim First Away Win

ZESCO United produced an impressive performance to defeat Roan United 4-0 at Kafubu Stadium in Luanshya in a rescheduled Week Three fixture of the 2026 MTN Super League Transitional Season, recording their first away victory of the campaign.

A brace from Kennedy Musonda and second-half goals from Anthony Shipanuka and Yves Allarabaye secured maximum points for the Ndola-based side, who continued their improved goalscoring form with nine goals in their last two matches.

Roan United started with intent in front of their home supporters, with their best opportunity arriving inside the opening 15 minutes. In the 12th minute, striker Clifford Hamunkoyo raced past two defenders before directing his effort towards goal, only for the crossbar to deny him. ZESCO’s defenders subsequently cleared the danger.

The visitors responded by taking control of the contest and broke the deadlock in the 28th minute through Musonda. Allan Mumba’s long-range effort was parried by Roan goalkeeper Bweupe Anatole, but the rebound fell kindly to the striker, who calmly finished from close range.

ZESCO doubled their advantage shortly before half-time after Musonda was brought down inside the penalty area in the 41st minute. Referee Leonard Akapelwa pointed to the spot, allowing the forward to step up and convert the penalty. The goal took Musonda’s tally to four in five matches.

The visitors continued their attacking approach after the break and extended their lead in the 54th minute. Musonda turned provider, supplying a pass that Shipanuka converted to put ZESCO firmly in control and further frustrate the hosts.

With his team enjoying a comfortable advantage, coach Mwenya Chipepo made changes from the bench, introducing Gilbert Tentani for Abraham Siankombo, Yves Allarabaye for Rally Bwalya and Kelvin Kampamba for Luka Mutoshi.

The substitutions paid off as Kampamba combined with fellow substitute Allarabaye to create ZESCO’s fourth goal, with Allarabaye finishing the move to complete a convincing afternoon for the visitors.

Speaking after the match, Chipepo expressed satisfaction with the result, acknowledging the challenge of collecting maximum points away from home against a determined opponent.

“I am happy, to win away from home is not easy, we were playing a very determined side,” he said.

The coach also welcomed the team’s improved goalscoring form, with ZESCO now having found the net nine times across their last two matches.

The victory lifts ZESCO United to second place in Stream B with eight points, two behind leaders Green Eagles. The result provides a timely boost as the team looks to maintain its momentum and close the gap at the top of the standings.

For Roan United, the defeat represents a difficult result on home soil after their early attacking promise failed to translate into goals. ZESCO, meanwhile, leave Luanshya with three valuable points and renewed confidence following their first away win of the season.
