Chipolopolo defender Frankie Musonda has secured a fresh start after signing a one-year contract with Bahrain SC, following his departure from Scottish Championship side Ayr United in May.
The 27-year-old Zambian international, who had been a free agent, agreed terms with the Bahraini club before the recent international break and has already made his debut.
Musonda confirmed the move in an Instagram post, writing:
“Been out here for a while now but happy to finally share with you my new home for the season, here in Bahrain with @bahrain_club_1936.”
A Stint in Scotland Ends
Musonda joined Ayr United from Raith Rovers in June 2022, later extending his stay with a one-year deal in 2023. However, his 2023/24 season was hampered by recurring injuries, restricting him to 16 appearances — only 11 as a starter — with one assist recorded.
The Brentford-born defender missed several key fixtures, including Zambia’s 5–0 international friendly defeat to Russia in April. He was also left out of the squad for the September 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Morocco.
Career Highlights at Ayr United
Despite setbacks, Musonda left Ayr United after making 71 appearances — the most he has played for any club — while contributing five goals and three assists. He was a vital part of the side that mounted a strong challenge for promotion to the Scottish Premiership last season.
Looking Ahead in Bahrain
Now at Bahrain SC, Musonda will aim to revive his form and re-establish himself in Zambia’s defensive setup ahead of crucial qualifiers in the run-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup. His experience and leadership will be crucial for both club and country as he embarks on this new chapter.
