Erling Haaland scored two goals on the opening of the Premier League, leading the reigning champions to a 3-0 victory against newly-promoted Burnley.
The first goal came just moments after the kickoff, a mere 4 minutes into the game. Haaland exhibited his lightning-quick reflexes and precise finishing ability to slot the ball past the Burnley goalkeeper. This early strike set the tone for City’s dominance throughout the match.
However, Haaland’s show of skill was far from over. As the first half approached its conclusion, he unleashed a moment of brilliance that showcased his technical finesse. Picking up the ball near the edge of the penalty area, he expertly curled a first-time shot that left the opposing goalkeeper rooted to the spot and rattled the crossbar before finding the back of the net. This breathtaking goal not only solidified Haaland’s reputation as a goal-scoring sensation but also marked his 100th goal across competitions in both England and Germany since his debut for Borussia Dortmund in January 2020.
The third goal for City was hammered home by none other than UEFA Champions League final matchwinner Rodri. Taking advantage of a moment of confusion within Burnley’s defense, Rodri capitalized on a well-placed Phil Foden free-kick to secure City’s resounding victory with just 15 minutes remaining on the clock.
Burnley, making their return to the Premier League after a season’s absence, showed glimpses of their potential throughout the match. Promising displays from players like Luca Koleosho and Zeki Amdouni highlighted their bright attacking work. However, despite their efforts, they struggled to replicate the cutting-edge prowess that Haaland brought to City’s gameplay.
City’s next match is in the UEFA Super Cup, where they will be facing off against Sevilla. This exciting clash is scheduled for Wednesday and will bring together City, a prominent club from the English Premier League, and Sevilla
