
Zambian winger Joseph Sabobo Banda has completed a four-year move to Armenian Premier League club Alashkert FC, continuing his steady rise in European football. The 20-year-old attacker links up with fellow Zambian and U20 international Felix Phiri, giving Alashkert an exciting young Zambian presence as they build for the future.
European Journey Continues
Sabobo joins Alashkert after spells in Switzerland and Israel, having previously featured for FC Zürich and Hapoel Be’er Sheva. His move to Armenia marks another important step in his European development, with Alashkert offering him the platform for regular top-flight football and continental exposure.
The winger’s arrival comes just a month after Felix Phiri signed for the club, and the pairing is expected to add pace, width and attacking balance to Alashkert’s forward line. For Sabobo, the move represents both continuity and opportunity, as he seeks consistency and growth at senior club level.
From COSAFA Star to Europe
Sabobo first announced himself on the regional stage during the COSAFA Under-17 Championships in 2020 and 2021, where he emerged as one of the competition’s standout performers. His electrifying displays earned him high-profile trials at FC Barcelona and French Ligue 1 side Lille, underlining his potential at a young age.
Those performances eventually led to a move to FC Zürich in January 2024, where he gained exposure to European football structures before switching to Hapoel Be’er Sheva in July 2025 on a long-term deal. His time in Israel further sharpened his tactical awareness and physicality, preparing him for the next phase of his career.
Growing International Profile
On the international stage, Sabobo continues to build an impressive résumé. He has made four appearances for Zambia’s U20 national team and already boasts 14 senior caps for the Chipolopolo, scoring once. His inclusion in Zambia’s squad at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco provided invaluable experience against elite African opposition.
With a four-year contract now secured at Alashkert, Sabobo will be aiming to translate his international promise into sustained club impact, while remaining firmly in contention for future national team call-ups.
