Copper Queens Can Still Qualify Despite 6-5 Loss To Australia
The Copper Queens of Zambia remain in contention for a spot in the quarterfinals at the Paris 2024 Olympics despite a 6-5 loss to Australia. The team’s chances hinge on their performance in the final group match against Germany and the results of other Group B fixtures.
After two rounds of matches, the standings show Germany and Australia with 3 points each, while Zambia remains at the bottom with zero points. However, Zambia can still qualify as one of the best third-placed teams if certain conditions are met.
The USA’s 4-1 victory over Germany has kept the group’s dynamics open. For Zambia to advance, they need a significant win against Germany. Currently, the goal difference is as follows: Australia -2, Germany 0, and Zambia -4. Zambia must beat Germany by at least five unanswered goals to improve their goal difference and secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
FAZ President Andrew Kamanga has urged fans to continue supporting the Copper Queens as they aim for a remarkable turnaround. The team’s final group match against Germany on Wednesday is crucial, and a victory will significantly boost their chances of advancing.
The Copper Queens’ resilience and fighting spirit will be tested as they look to defy the odds and progress to the knockout stages of the tournament.
