Chaminunka FC Crowned Kasenga Farmers Cup 2025 Champions
Chaminunka Football Club head coach Sekeletu Mwakatala led his side to a memorable triumph in the 2025 Kasenga Farmers Cup, sponsored by Ackibu Saidi Enterprise, after a nail-biting penalty shootout victory over Zambia Potatoes Company FC on Sunday.
The final, held at the Ackpet Football Ground, was a tense affair from start to finish. Both teams fought tooth and nail but could not break the deadlock in regulation time, sending the match into a high-stakes shootout. Chiminunka held their composure to edge their rivals 7–6 on penalties, triggering jubilant celebrations from their loyal supporters.
The occasion was made even more special by the presence of former Zambia international defender Hichani Himonde, a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) champion, who watched the action from the stands.
Speaking after the win, Mwakatala was full of praise for his players’ grit and discipline.
“It’s so exciting. We worked hard to keep our players focused and organized, and today they showed the discipline and determination we’ve been training for,” Mwakatala said. “Being watched by a legend like Hichani Himonde is a huge opportunity for these young players — it can open doors for them.”
The coach stressed that the win was a stepping stone for greater things ahead.
“This is just the beginning. We have a league game next Sunday, and this victory will inspire us to push even harder,” he added. “Financially, it’s been tough we’ve been relying on donations from well-wishers. This K19, 000 prize money is a massive boost for us.”
Tournament sponsor Ackibu Saidi hailed the event as a major success, emphasizing its role in both sports and community development.
“This is about more than trophies and money it’s about keeping our youth engaged in positive activities and identifying future talent,” Saidi said. “We are committed to continuing our support for sports in Kasenga.”
