In what seemed to be South Africa’s victory after leading for 17 minutes came down to a loss when Sweden equalised the score and added another goal in the 89th minute making it 2-1.
It was midfielder,Hilda Magaia who netted the goal in 48th minute for South Africa before Sweden’s Fridolina Rolfo equalised in the 65th minute. While Banyana Banyana kept on to a tie, Sweden’s defender Amanda L.added a goal in the 89th minutes
Next up in Group G is Italy v Argentina at Eden Park tomorrow evening. South Africa will take the field again,against La Albiceleste in Dunedin on Friday, with Sweden taking on Italy in Wellington on Saturday.
This is the second FIFA women’s World Cup appearance for South Africa who are also looking forward to more wins and eager to advance their chances to proceed into the knockout stages.
