Lubambo Targets Strong Finish Against Niger
Chipolopolo skipper Lubambo Musonda has called on Zambians to rally behind the national team as they prepare to face Niger in their final FIFA World Cup Qualifier Group E match on Sunday, 12 October 2025, at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
Speaking ahead of the highly anticipated home fixture, Lubambo reflected on Zambia’s 1-0 away victory over Tanzania, a game in which he played a key role by assisting Fashion Sakala’s winning goal after a dazzling run past two defenders.
“Playing at home against Niger is a must-win,” said Lubambo. “As a team, we want to finish strong. Yes, we tried to keep the ball in the Tanzania game, but there were some mistakes we need to correct. The focus now is to build cohesion and readiness for the AFCON coming in December.”
The captain emphasized that while the away win boosted team morale, the Chipolopolo are not getting carried away.
“The win is behind us now. The focus is on finishing strong. We played good combination football and managed to control the game for large parts, which boosted our confidence,” he added.
Lubambo praised his teammates’ defensive discipline and overall improvement in possession play, noting that these aspects were key to the team’s recent success.
“Overall, as a team, we defended well. It was only fair that we scored after creating good chances. We’re improving in keeping the ball and dictating the game’s tempo,” he said.
The captain also issued a heartfelt message to the fans, urging them to turn up in numbers and create an electric atmosphere in Ndola.
“As always, we need our supporters to come in numbers. They give us the energy to keep pushing. The team is in high spirits, and we want to give the fans something to celebrate,” Lubambo concluded.
Zambia will be looking to end their World Cup qualifying campaign on a high note and maintain momentum heading into the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to kick off in December.
