MTN Super League side Red Arrows have completed the signing of highly-rated DR Congo striker John Pweto Kanyembo on a three-year contract as they continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new season.
The 20-year-old forward joins the Airmen after an impressive spell in his homeland and arrives with a growing reputation as one of the Democratic Republic of Congo’s brightest young attacking talents.
Airmen Win Race for Highly Sought-After Forward
Red Arrows moved swiftly to secure Pweto’s signature following the departure of Zambia international Albert Kangwanda, who recently completed a move to Tanzanian champions Young Africans (Yanga SC).
According to the ZamFoot Crew, Pweto had attracted interest from several top African clubs, including Espérance Sportive de Tunis of Tunisia, Al Ahly of Egypt, Vipers SC of Uganda and Young Africans of Tanzania.
His decision to join the Airmen represents a significant coup for the 2026 ABSA Cup champions.
Proven Goalscorer
Pweto joins Red Arrows from FC Saint Pierre after making his name with Congolese giants FC Saint Éloi Lupopo.
The powerful striker scored 14 goals last season, combining physical strength, aerial dominance and clinical finishing to establish himself as one of the standout forwards in the Linafoot championship.
Red Arrows described their new signing as a striker renowned for his commanding presence inside the penalty area, relentless work rate and natural eye for goal.
International and Continental Experience
Despite being just 20 years old, Pweto has already gained valuable experience on both the international and continental stage.
His outstanding performances earned him call-ups to the DR Congo Under-20 national team as well as the DR Congo CHAN squad, where he represented his country at the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
He also featured for FC Saint Éloi Lupopo in the CAF Champions League, facing continental heavyweights Espérance Sportive de Tunis and Orlando Pirates, experiences that have helped shape his development.
Red Arrows Continue Squad Rebuild
Pweto becomes the latest addition to an ambitious Red Arrows recruitment drive ahead of the MTN Super League transitional season, which kicks off in September.
The Airmen have already strengthened their squad with the signings of Eliya Mandanji, Munda Phiri, Owen Mwamba, Elvis Mulenga from Kafue Celtic, and former Zambia Under-20 left-back Amon Chulu.
His arrival is expected to add fresh firepower to the Airmen’s frontline as they look to challenge for league honours after finishing as runners-up last season while lifting the 2026 ABSA Cup.
Conclusion
Red Arrows have made a major statement in the transfer market by landing one of DR Congo’s most promising young strikers.
With John Pweto Kanyembo now leading the attack, the Airmen will be hoping the prolific forward can help fill the void left by Albert Kangwanda and spearhead another successful campaign.
