Zesco United Face Possible Points Deduction Over Unregistered Players

Zesco United Face Possible Points Deduction Over Unregistered Players

Zambian Premier League giants Zesco United could face a major setback after reportedly fielding unregistered players in their opening league fixture against Konkola Blades. Sources reveal that Zachariah Chilongoshi, Pepo Ifiinto, and Chijoeke Alaekwa are at the center of the registration controversy.

According to information gathered by Bola Crew, the Ndola-based side risks being docked points, with Konkola Blades expected to be awarded all three points. This development comes after the match ended in a goalless stalemate.

A source in Ndola expressed shock, stating, “It is surprising that a big club like Zesco can fail to register players on time.”

The nine-time Zambian champions, who are also preparing for their CAF Confederation Cup campaign, now find themselves in a precarious position both locally and continentally. Zesco United will face Gabonese outfit FC 105 in the preliminary stage of the CAF competition, while their next domestic fixture sees them travel to Lusaka for a clash against Mutondo Stars this Saturday.

If the punishment is enforced, it would be a major blow to Zesco’s title ambitions as they aim to challenge for the MTN Super League crown while balancing continental duties.
