Zambia’s AFCON Journey Begins: National Team Sets Off for Saudi Arabia Camp
The Zambia Men’s Senior National Team, popularly known as the Chipolopolo Boys, has embarked on its pre-AFCON journey with a training session and subsequent departure for Saudi Arabia. Led by Coach Avram Grant and his dedicated technical staff, the team is gearing up for the upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament set to commence on January 13 in Ivory Coast.
The team will establish its camp in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where they plan to engage in two international friendly matches as a crucial part of their preparation for the AFCON competition. This strategic move aims to fine-tune the players’ skills, enhance team cohesion, and assess their form against international opponents.
The Chipolopolo Boys are scheduled to stay in Jeddah for a 10-day training camp, utilizing this time to focus on tactical strategies, physical conditioning, and overall team dynamics. The training camp serves as a pivotal phase for Coach Avram Grant to analyze player performances, make necessary adjustments, and instill a winning mindset in the squad.

After the preparatory camp in Saudi Arabia, the team will travel to San Pedro, where they are slated to play their AFCON Group Matches. The tournament’s opening match for Zambia is scheduled for January 17 against Congo, followed by a clash with Tanzania four days later. The final group match is set for January 24 against the formidable Atlas Lions of Morocco.
Being drawn into Group F alongside Morocco, Tanzania, and Congo DR, Zambia faces a challenging yet exciting journey in the AFCON tournament. The team’s aspirations include progressing through the group stage, making a mark in the knockout rounds, and showcasing their football prowess on the continental stage.
