“We Will Be Back” — Mwenya Chipepo Backs Nkana to Recover from Slow Start

“We Will Be Back” — Mwenya Chipepo Backs Nkana to Recover From Slow Start

By Bola Yapa Zed | October 27, 2025

Nkana FC head coach Mwenya Chipepo has expressed confidence that his side will soon rediscover their winning form despite a difficult start to the 2025/26 MTN Super League season. The 13-time Zambian champions suffered yet another setback after a 1–0 loss to Mufulira Wanderers at Shinde Stadium, extending their winless run to nine matches.

Chipepo admitted his disappointment with the latest result but remained optimistic that Nkana will soon turn things around. The result leaves the Kitwe-based giants second from bottom, with only four points from nine matches and a single goal scored all season.

Chipepo: “We Will Be Back”

Speaking to Times of Zambia after the defeat, Chipepo admitted that the loss was painful, especially considering the team’s ambitions to climb up the table.

“We are disappointed with the result (1–0 home loss to Mufulira Wanderers). We were home and we should have won this one. This is a game we expected to pick three points, but things will change soon. We will be back,” said Chipepo.

Although Nkana have struggled to find their rhythm this season, the coach insists that the players are improving with each game and that the team’s fortunes will soon shift. His emphasis on rebuilding confidence, correcting defensive lapses, and converting chances suggests that the technical bench is aware of the areas needing urgent attention.

A Tough Season So Far for Kalampa

Nkana’s start to the 2025/26 campaign has been their worst in recent history. They began the season with a goalless draw against FC Leopards, followed by a 1–1 stalemate against Nkwazi FC. However, a run of defeats — including a 3–0 forfeited loss to Green Buffaloes, a 1–0 loss to Kabwe Warriors, and narrow defeats to Zanaco, Green Eagles, and Mufulira Wanderers — has seen them slide into the relegation zone.

The Kitwe giants have managed just one goal in nine games, while conceding nine, leaving them with a -8 goal difference. Despite this worrying form, the Red Devils’ loyal fans continue to rally behind the team, hoping that Chipepo’s men can rediscover their identity.

Crucial Fixtures Ahead

Nkana’s next two fixtures could define their season’s direction. They travel to Nkoloma Stadium this weekend to face Red Arrows, one of the league’s most consistent sides this term. That will be followed by a tough home fixture against defending champions Power Dynamos in a fierce Kitwe derby.

Nkana may be going through a difficult patch, but Coach Mwenya Chipepo’s optimism offers a glimmer of hope for Kalampa faithful. As the club prepares for crucial back-to-back fixtures against Red Arrows and Power Dynamos, all eyes will be on whether Nkana can finally break their winless streak and begin their journey back to form.

If history has shown anything, it’s that Nkana never stays down for long — and with Chipepo’s determination, the comeback might just be around the corner.
