Sakala & Daka Join Chipolopolo Camp for AFCON Build-Up
As the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) approaches, the Chipolopolo Boys are gearing up for the tournament with a diverse squad that includes talents from various leagues across the globe. England-based striker Patson Daka has already joined his teammates in Saudi Arabia, demonstrating the commitment and eagerness of Zambia’s key attacking force.
In addition to Daka, Fashion Sakala has made a seamless transition from Fayha to Jeddah, linking up with the squad for the pre-AFCON preparations. The England and Saudi Arabia-based players will soon be joined by Italy-based winger Lameck Banda, along with defenders Gift Mphande and Frankie Musonda, all expected to join later this week.

The team, having arrived from Lusaka, is set to hold its first training session on Wednesday in Saudi Arabia. The collective effort of players from different corners of the world reflects the unity and determination within the Chipolopolo camp as they set their sights on a successful AFCON campaign.
In a friendly match scheduled for January 9, 2024, Zambia will face Cameroon, providing a valuable opportunity for the team to fine-tune their strategies and build cohesion. Following the friendly encounter, the squad will shift their base to San Pedro, gearing up for the opening match of Group F against DR Congo on January 17.
The tournament’s dynamics will see Zambia face Tanzania four days later before a crucial encounter against Morocco, making for an exciting and challenging group stage. The Chipolopolo Boys, led by their coach and supported by a dedicated backroom staff, are determined to make their mark in the 2023 AFCON.
As the squad continues its preparations in Saudi Arabia, fans eagerly anticipate the performances of Zambia’s diverse and talented players on the continental stage. The journey begins with the friendly against Cameroon, setting the tone for what promises to be an exhilarating AFCON campaign for Chipolopolo.
