NAPSA Stars Bounce Back with Crucial Win Against Kabwe Warriors

NAPSA Stars head coach Sipho Mumbi finally found some relief as his side secured a much-needed 2–0 victory over Kabwe Warriors at REIZ Arena on Saturday. Coming into the match under intense scrutiny following a difficult run of form, the win provided a moment of calm for a technical bench that has been under pressure for weeks.

The Pensioners had struggled prior to this fixture, including a disappointing Week 13 loss away to Nkana FC at Kitwe Stadium. That defeat only added to the growing concerns around consistency, composure and the ability to turn performances into results.

But on Saturday, NAPSA Stars showed renewed hunger. Evans Kayombo struck early in the 13th minute, giving the home fans something to cheer. Timothy Sichalwe sealed the result late in the 82nd minute, ensuring the Pensioners collected all three points. The victory lifted NAPSA Stars to 11th place on the table with 15 points as they continue their push to climb higher before the AfCON break.

After the match, Coach Sipho Mumbi reflected on the significance of the win and acknowledged how important it was for his dressing room. Below is how the coach reacted to the performance:

“I think congratulations to the boys for the well-spirited fight today. We knew where we were coming from, and it was a game that we said we were supposed to win playing at home, and I think it’s a morale booster,” he said, emphasising the emotional lift the result brings.

Mumbi also reminded supporters that patience is still needed as the team continues its rebuild.

“Of course we are still very far from our objectives, but I think we will take one step at a time,” he added, noting that progress will be gradual.

He went on to highlight the importance of the upcoming AfCON break, stressing that it will give the technical bench and the squad time to reset and strengthen weak areas.

“We need to continue preparing until we reach our objective. We will try to talk to management and see how best they can help us,” the coach noted as he outlined the club’s next phase of planning.

NAPSA Stars will now look to build on this momentum heading into the next round of fixtures, hoping that this victory marks the beginning of a shift in form.
