Power Dynamos One Win Away from Glory After Nkwazi Victory

Power Dynamos Edge Closer to 8th Title After Beating Nkwazi 2-0

Power Dynamos have taken a giant step toward securing their eighth MTN Super League title, thanks to a convincing 2-0 home win over Nkwazi. The reigning champions have now opened a six-point gap at the top of the table, and with only three matches remaining, the title is firmly within reach.

Should Power defeat bitter rivals Nkana FC in the highly anticipated Kitwe Derby on April 20, and if Zesco United fail to collect maximum points against relegation-threatened Lumwana Radiants, the trophy will be headed back to Arthur Davies Stadium.

A Season of Redemption for Oswald Mutapa

It’s been quite a turnaround for head coach Oswald Mutapa. Early in the season, the Power Dynamos gaffer faced mounting pressure as the team struggled to find form. With just one win from their opening six matches (W1 D4 L1), there were growing calls from fans for the club to part ways with Mutapa.

However, credit must be given to the Power Dynamos executive for showing patience and faith in their manager. That patience has paid off. The team is currently enjoying an unbeaten run in 2025, and their latest victory is the clearest indication yet that they’re peaking at the right moment.

“The chances of winning the league are there; we are in pole position. We just need to work even harder so that we can get the championship,” Mutapa said after the game.

Match Highlights: Chansa and Mumba Seal the Deal

The victory over Nkwazi was a result of clinical finishing and coordinated teamwork. Titus Chansa, formerly of Mutondo Stars, opened the scoring in the 25th minute. After receiving a square ball from defender Jackson Mulambya, Chansa calmly slotted home with a composed first-time finish.

The home side doubled their advantage three minutes before halftime through Prince Mumba. The move began with Chansa, whose cross found Eddie Ankobo. Ankobo smartly flicked the ball into Mumba’s path, and the midfielder made no mistake to make it 2-0.

Despite Nkwazi’s efforts to bounce back in the second half, the damage had already been done. It was a bitter return for Aggrey Chiyangi, the visiting coach and Power Dynamos legend, whose side simply couldn’t match the intensity of the reigning champions.

Title Race Still Open — But Just Barely

While Power Dynamos celebrated their 19th win of the season, title rivals Nkana FC and Zesco United also kept the pressure with narrow 1-0 victories of their own. But the gap remains unchanged — six points separate Power from Zesco, and nine from Nkana, giving the Kitwe giants a mathematical chance but leaving their fate out of their hands.

Now, all roads lead to April 20, where the Kitwe Derby could be more than just a rivalry — it could be the coronation.
