Nyasa Big Bullets Triumph Over Red Arrows in CAF Champions League
Nyasa Big Bullets overturned a one-goal deficit to secure a crucial 2-1 victory over Red Arrows in the first leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round. The match, held at Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe, saw the Malawian champions rally late to keep their continental dreams alive.
Zambian champions Red Arrows took the lead in the 57th minute when striker Ricky Banda found the back of the net, silencing the energetic home crowd. The goal was a result of a well-executed counter-attack, leaving the Nyasa Big Bullets defense scrambling.
However, the hosts, spurred on by their passionate supporters, were not deterred. Caristo Pasuwa’s men pushed forward relentlessly, and their persistence paid off in the 77th minute. Babatunde Adepoju, the Nigerian forward, smashed home the equalizer from inside the penalty area, capitalizing on a precise assist from Yankho Singo.
The comeback was complete just five minutes later when Precious Phiri struck the winner, sending the Bingu Stadium into a frenzy. The victory puts Nyasa Big Bullets in a strong position as they head to Lusaka for the second leg, where Red Arrows will be looking to overturn the deficit.
