Nkana’s On-Field Struggles Worsen with Off-Field Penalties

Nkana’s On-Field Struggles Worsen with Off-Field Penalties

Nkana Football Club has once again found itself in the spotlight for off-the-pitch issues, as the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Player Status Committee has ordered the Kitwe-based giants to settle outstanding payments amounting to more than K500,000 owed to three former players. The decision highlights the ongoing financial and contractual disputes affecting several clubs in the Zambian Premier League.

Nkana’s Ruling

According to verdicts issued on September 17, 2025, Nkana FC must pay goalkeeper Mangani Banda and winger Shadreck Musonda a combined total of K400,000, while defender Gift Zulu is set to receive K155,000 for breach of contract. The ruling serves as a reminder of clubs’ obligations to honor contractual agreements with players.

This latest development leaves Nkana facing not only poor form on the pitch but also significant financial strain off it. With just two points from their opening four games, the 13-time league champions are currently in the relegation zone of the MTN Super League, further compounding their troubles.

Wider FAZ Decisions

Nkana’s case was part of a broader ruling involving multiple clubs and players.

  • Chambeshi Football Club has been ordered to pay former coach Enerst Mwelwa K73,000 and former player Harrison Kaonga K96,000 for wrongful contract terminations.

  • Kitwe United must settle unpaid dues of K127,000 for Haveston Ching’ambu and K98,000 for Oswald Simpamba.

  • Indeni Football Club has been directed to pay Isah Kazembe more than K66,000, covering gratuity, signing-on fees, and interest.

Conclusion

The FAZ rulings underscore the urgent need for financial discipline and contractual compliance within Zambian football. For Nkana, who are already battling relegation fears, this latest financial burden raises further questions about the club’s long-term stability. Unless urgent reforms are made, the financial weight could hinder their ability to rebuild on the pitch.
