Mwenya Chipepo Says ZESCO United Still Have Room to Improve After 4-0 Win

Mwenya Chipepo Warns of Tough Tests Ahead Despite ZESCO’s Roan Rout

ZESCO United head coach Mwenya Chipepo has praised his side’s performance following their emphatic 4-0 victory over Roan United but insists there is still work to be done as the team continues to improve its finishing ahead of two demanding away fixtures.

The Ndola-based side secured their first away win of the 2026 MTN Super League Transitional Season at Kafubu Stadium, with Kennedy Musonda scoring twice before Anthony Shipanuka and Yves Allarabaye added a goal each.

Chipepo was pleased with the result, highlighting the difficulty of collecting maximum points away from home against a determined opponent. He also welcomed the team’s ability to convert its chances after previously expressing concern about their finishing.

“Of course I’m happy,” Chipepo stated. “To win away from home, it’s not easy, especially that we were playing a very determined side. Roan United, they’ve been doing well so far. But remember last time I was very worried with the conversion rate, [and] we had to score four goals away from home—it’s not easy.”

Despite the convincing scoreline, the ZESCO coach stressed that improving the squad’s weaknesses remains an ongoing process that requires consistent training and patience.

Chipepo explained that the technical bench continues to work with the players to improve their overall performance, noting that the progress made against Roan United does not mean the team has reached its desired level.

“No, we are teachers, so our job is to make sure that at least we improve the weaknesses of our players,” he explained. “Last time, like I said, we were struggling to score. We’ve worked on them, and it can’t happen in one day. This is a process, so they are not yet where we want to be. We are still improving in every area.”

With the victory providing a boost to the team’s confidence, Chipepo has already turned his attention to the challenges ahead, identifying upcoming away encounters against Nkwazi and Green Buffaloes as difficult tests for his players.

The coach acknowledged the quality of both opponents and urged his squad to maintain its commitment and work rate as they prepare for another demanding stretch of fixtures.

“Those are tough games, those are tough games,” Chipepo warned regarding the next two fixtures. “You know, Nkwazi and Green Buffaloes are good sides, and our players are very serious at the moment. They are working very, very hard, so another two away games—very difficult ones, but we just have to go there and work hard.”

ZESCO United will therefore look to build on their four-goal performance while continuing to sharpen their finishing and address weaknesses as the transitional season progresses. For Chipepo, the message remains clear: the victory over Roan United is encouraging, but sustained improvement will be essential against the challenges that lie ahead.
