Mines United Aim High with Super League Promotion and Stadium Plans
Newly promoted side Mines United have announced bold ambitions for the 2025/26 MTN Super League season, including the construction of a 15,000-capacity stadium in Kabwe.
Mines United sealed their place in Zambia’s top-flight league after finishing third in the ZPL National Division One with 62 points, recording 18 wins, 8 draws, and 8 losses. The team’s dramatic rise—from being bottom of the table to securing Super League promotion—has captivated local football fans.
The club is based in Makululu, Kabwe, and their debut in the Super League marks a historic milestone. Club Chairman Matthew Mohan, who took over last year, has played a central role in the transformation. Speaking on ZNBC Radio 4’s Sports Day, Mohan credited the players and technical bench for their resilience and revealed the club’s bigger vision.

“We took over this team last year when it was in Division One, qualified them to the National League and within nine months they secured promotion to the Super League,” said Mohan.
Mohan added that Mines United’s ambitions go beyond mere survival in the league:
“Our target as Mines United is to actually win the Premier League for the 2025/26 Season. We are not coming to joke around—we’re here to create value for our community.”
As part of this vision, Mohan announced plans to build a 15,000-seater stadium on the site of the current President Stadium, which the club has taken over through a Memorandum of Understanding with the Zambian Army. The new facility will include a shopping mall to enhance community engagement and economic activity in Kabwe.
Mines United’s rise adds to Kabwe’s growing football presence, with three teams—Kabwe Warriors, Prison Leopards, and now Mines United—set to compete in the 2025/26 MTN Super League.
With a bold vision, strong leadership, and clear ambition, Mines United are positioning themselves as more than just newcomers—they’re aiming to become serious contenders in Zambian football.
