Zambia’s Copper Queens forward Mercy Chipasula has joined Danish club HB Køge Women, marking an important milestone in the promising career of the 18-year-old, who will continue her development in European football.
The move has been confirmed by both the club and the player, although the duration of her contract has not been disclosed. Chipasula joins HB Køge Women from Kamfinsa Blue Eagles Queens of Kitwe, having progressed through Zambia’s youth national teams before earning recognition at senior international level.
The forward has represented Zambia at Under-17 and Under-20 level and has also featured for the senior Copper Queens at the 2025 and 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Her move to Denmark provides a new opportunity to gain experience in a different football environment while continuing to develop her abilities.
Chipasula said she chose HB Køge Women because she believes the club offers the right environment for her to improve as a young player and take the next steps in her career.
“I chose to move to the club because I believe that it is the best place for me to develop. I am still young and know that I have a lot to learn, so I feel that HB Køge Women is the right place for me to take the next steps in my career,” she told the club’s media.
The Zambian international added that the club’s history was another important factor behind her decision, expressing excitement about beginning a new chapter in Denmark and contributing to the team’s ambitions.
“The club’s proud history was also an important reason why I chose to come here. I am really looking forward to getting started and starting a new chapter in my career. I promise to work hard and do everything I can to contribute to the club’s continued success,” Chipasula said.
HB Køge Women Sporting Director Jonas Nielsen welcomed the arrival of the young forward, highlighting her ability to take on opponents one-on-one and her technical qualities with the ball.
Nielsen explained that the club had been waiting for the necessary paperwork relating to Chipasula’s work permit to be completed before welcoming her to the squad.
“We have been very much looking forward to the paperwork around Mercy’s work permit falling into place, so it is great that she is finally here. Mercy has something extra that we rarely find in young players in Denmark. She is strong one-on-one and can do some things with the ball that we have been missing in the squad,” Nielsen said.
The sporting director also revealed that HB Køge Women had secured Chipasula’s signature ahead of interest from several prominent clubs, underlining the potential the Danish side believes she possesses.
“Therefore, we are also proud that we have managed to sign her in front of some of the biggest clubs in the world, and we are already feeling interest before she has played her first game for us,” he said.
However, Nielsen emphasised that the club understands the importance of allowing the teenager time to adapt and develop rather than placing excessive expectations on her immediately.
“She has just turned 18, so we have to give her time and be patient. But I would like to promise our fans that we have brought in a player who will entertain,” he added.
Chipasula has been handed the number 10 shirt at HB Køge Women, a notable part of her introduction as she prepares to begin life at her new club.
Her move represents another opportunity for a young Zambian footballer to develop her career abroad while building on the international experience she has already gained with the Copper Queens. As she settles into Danish football, Chipasula will be looking to make the most of the opportunity and continue progressing at club and international level.
