Copper Queens Begin COSAFA Title Defense Against Botswana

Zambia women’s national football team have officially begun their title defense at the COSAFA Women’s Championship, with the regional tournament already underway.

Zambia enters the competition aiming to retain the crown after lifting the trophy in 2022 and 2024, and finishing runners-up in 2023.

The Copper Queens open their Group B campaign against Botswana women’s national football team tomorrow at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium.

Group B also includes:

  • Zimbabwe women’s national football team

  • Eswatini women’s national football team

Following the Botswana clash, Zambia will face Zimbabwe three days later before concluding their group stage fixtures against Eswatini on February 24.

Zambia’s recent record in the competition reinforces their status as favourites. Winning two of the last three editions demonstrates sustained regional dominance and tactical maturity within the squad.

Beyond regional silverware, the COSAFA Women’s Championship forms part of Zambia’s structured preparations for this year’s Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The tournament offers competitive match exposure, squad rotation opportunities, and performance calibration ahead of continental action.
