Green Eagles are on the verge of completing one of the biggest transfers of the off-season, with MTN Super League Goalkeeper of the Year Mangani Banda understood to be closing in on a move to the Choma-based club.
Sources indicate that the deal is at an advanced stage after the experienced goalkeeper reportedly agreed personal terms ahead of becoming a free agent.
If completed, Banda will join Green Eagles following the expiration of his contract with Kabwe Warriors later this month.
Reward for Outstanding Season
Banda heads into the move on the back of the best season of his career.
The 2025/26 MTN Super League Goalkeeper of the Year kept an outstanding 17 clean sheets, playing a pivotal role in helping Kabwe Warriors secure a fourth-place finish.
His consistency, leadership and commanding performances between the posts earned him widespread recognition as the league’s top goalkeeper.
Major Statement by Green Eagles
Should the transfer be completed, Green Eagles will secure one of the most sought-after players on the local market.
The club has been looking to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season, and Banda’s arrival would provide a significant boost to its ambitions.
His experience, shot-stopping ability and leadership qualities are expected to add stability to the Eagles’ defence.
One of the Window’s Biggest Deals
Banda has attracted interest from several clubs following his award-winning campaign.
However, Green Eagles now appear to have won the race for the highly-rated goalkeeper, with only the final formalities believed to remain before the deal is completed.
The move would represent another major transfer in what has already been a busy off-season in the MTN Super League.
Conclusion
If the deal is finalised, Green Eagles will have secured one of the league’s standout performers from last season.
After claiming the Golden Glove award with 17 clean sheets, Mangani Banda now looks set to begin a new chapter in Choma as Eagles strengthen their squad for the challenges ahead.
